Hi to all, I use the default XFCE environment because I use a external
monitor for my laptop, this is good because recognize fast external
monitors or Projectors, and have a great tool for do this (in 14.04 all
this are present):
http://www.webupd8.org/2012/11/how-to-use-multiple-monitors-in-xubuntu.html
Is not possible imagine to me to use other environment that XFCE (Ubuntu
with Unity not have so agile tool, Kubuntu is very heavy, and other ligh wm
like Enlightenment, fluxbox, openbox, jwm, windows maker, i3, xfe, awesome,
e17, ecewm, or include the great lxde not have this feature) . The reazon
is for in the year 2012 when I made my thesis I use my laptop Dell Inspiron
1750 long hours and my eyes they are remained tired, and difficult to
focus. Next other day, in the work of a friend I use a LCD monitor from a
CPU for 2 hours, and I question to my friend why my eyes are not tired, and
said to me that this are a LCD monitor are from a casino, and that this are
made for people to stay as long as possible looking at the monitor without
tiring. Then I started researching on Google and found that the refresh
rate to 75Hz is good for the eyes(on some places, not in all), and I saw
that this monitor settings are default 75Hz, and so I was then bought an
external monitor ViewSonic VA1931wa-LED and configured to 75Hz with a
script, here I upload two, one for viewsonic and other for external Plasma
Panasonic, this are an adaptation from
http://www.arunviswanathan.com/node/53
Note: I see that in each monitor is not possible put 75Hz, I see in cybers,
friends, I saw that in expensive monitors is possible this.
I try, that in some instances at this refresh rates obtain 75Hz

Monitor Externo: ViewSonic VA1931wa-LED
Laptop: Dell Inspiron 1750
follwing this:
http://www.arunviswanathan.com/node/53
I do that
wachin at wachin-Inspiron-1750:~$ gtf 1280 768 75
I obtain:
# 1280x768 @ 75.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 60.15 kHz; pclk: 102.98 MHz
Modeline "1280x768_75.00" 102.98 1280 1360 1496 1712 768 769 772 802 -HSync +Vsync
See this: http://i.imgur.com/YyGTFHf.png
Now, with this: "1280x768_75.00"
and this: 102.98 1280 1360 1496 1712 768 769 772 802 -HSync +Vsync
I put in the terminal:
wachin at wachin-Inspiron-1750:~$ xrandr --newmode "1280x768_75.00" 102.98 1280 1360 1496 1712 768 769 772 802 -HSync +Vsync
and next:
wachin at wachin-Inspiron-1750:~$ xrandr --addmode VGA1 1280x768_75.00
and next:
wachin at wachin-Inspiron-1750:~$ xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1280x768_75.00
wachin at wachin-Inspiron-1750:~$
Now I have my script working:
#! /bin/bash
xrandr --newmode "1024x768_75.00" 81.80 1024 1080 1192 1360 768 769 772 802 -HSync +Vsync
xrandr --addmode VGA1 1024x768_75.00
xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1024x768_75.00
EXPLICATIONS:
The output displayed for the external monitor when connecting the laptop is VGA1, it can be seen putting on the terminal:
wachin at wachin-Inspiron-1750:~$ xrandr
