im running it on a dirt cheap amd turion 64  from dell. Dont bother buying all the fancy shmantzy extras...Put your money on processor, RAM, and a decent sound card (read delta here.....I know, im sold out to them :)   oh and tons of HD space never hurts.
 
so, to answer your question, p3 or p4.....go AMD 64  dual core hehehehehe.   
 
Like the others state, you can run it on less for sure, but good luck when your mixes get busy, and you need to add  ALSA plugins on top.
