I experienced too, that the needed settings are not being done, if one
only installs the lowlatency-kernel in Feisty. Word is given, that it is
done if one installst the metapackage or the Ubuntustudio-Disk itself.
In my case, I needed to hack /etc/security/limits.conf and do some more
of the stuff decribed here:

afterwards, it all works fine for me (1-2 xruns/h under serious load
with settings like this:
/usr/bin/jackd -R -dalsa -r44100 -p128
> clock source = system clock via gettimeofday
> required capabilities not available
> capabilities: =
looks like the lowlat-kernel is not running or limits.conf is not hacked....
