Instead of having a video task with only one single application, a decision has been made to not include the video task on the UbuntuStudio DVD images. This is a compromise between having a useless video task, and still offering users a few useful apps to use. I am sorry there was no time to re-include applications such as openmovieeditor again, however this close to the release, this has been landed in my lap somewhat with only a short amount of time to resolve the issue.

I think I speak for the others when I say we will try to do the best we can to get video applications re-included on the DVD images for UbuntuStudio karmic, given we can find any that don't depend on ffmpeg, and are still useful, or if we can break up sed applications enough so that we can include those bits that don't require ffmpeg to function.

Ok Luke, we take the information, even a bad one.
About Open Movie Editor, it use also ffmpeg !!! So The trouble for
Karmic should be the same as for jaunty.
As I'm writting a book on "free audio-video editing" for the end of may
2009, I've tested completly Open Movie Editor.
There is absolutly no video editing software that not use ffmpeg,
mencoder, ffmpeg2theora, there are essentials bricks under GNU/Linux.
I'm working with a friend who create a free software for video/image
editing, EKD, under GNU/Linux, windows(c) and Apple(c). It is based on
ffmpeg and mencoder !!!
To answer to Cory, creating an ffmpeg absolutly free package for
including under Ubuntu CD/DVD has no sens !!!
By definition, ffmpeg, mencoder are multiverse packages or packages
coming from other repository as our lprod.org because they can't be
included in free CD.
The only thing we can do, is improve software install even for piece of
propriotary backport to GNU/Linux as ffmpeg, mencoder and help users
know they are installing piece of this kind of software, and if it's
possible as GNASH, improve a free solution face to ADOBE Plugin FLASH.
Hope it helps,
Bye,
Laurent
