I have not tried this particular function yet, but this is how I
understood this feature to work.
The most effective thing you could do to improve performance would be to
upgrade the amount of RAM that you have installed. Using Xfce would
also reduce the memory footprint as would keeping your desktop
applications (Open Office, Firefox, Thunderbird etc.) closed.
