PS:

For GRUB there should be a line

timeout 8

and for GRUB2 there should be the lines

if [ ${recordfail} = 1 ]; then
  set timeout=-1
else
  set timeout=10
fi

or similar.

AFAIK the numbers for the timeouts are seconds.
