I think what you are reporting is that using Qtractor you are unable to edit
a synth's settings?

If so, I ran into the same problem.  After talking with a few people,
including rnbc (the author of Qtractor) in #opensourcemusicians, they
mentioned that I should update Qtractor.  They suggested I used AutoStatic's
PPA.

I did and it resolved the problem for me.
