Interesting discussion.

Are the concerns that originally led to not using network-manager (nm) gone?
(for the record IIRC, difficulties to have concurrent wifi and lowlatency
audio)
AFAIK the potential impact on realtime audio still exist: in my last
attempts some months ago, it wasn't possible to enable wifi without
compromising xrun-free operation.
Are there any news on this side?
