Hi Tim,
My understanding is that flash drives (included SSD drives?) have a limited
amount of times they can be written to. Therefore, while I think
maintaining the operating system on a flash drive wouldn't be bad (or might
have speed benefits of booting and loading applications for SSD drives), I
wouldn't recommend them for storing audio data, say from recording in
Ardour.
