libraries etc

Hi

First time posting (been lurking for 2 + years :)

Forgive me for an absolutely newby question:

If I'm running ubuntu studio, or vanilla ubuntu for that matter, from a usb
thumb drive and I install additional libraries, are the libraries added to
the installation on the stick or stored elsewhere e.g. on my laptop's hard
drive?

And related: are any project files created store default on the usb stick?
