In an ideal world, in real live I own passable near-field monitors, but I  
don't have the room to set them as needed. The monitors are on the floor  
around 60 cm behind me, showing to my feet. The distance between two  
monitors is 33 cm.
As a former professional audio engineer I should know the terms for the  
issues it does cause, but I don't know them, I suspect standing waves is  
just one of the issues.

If you rephrase the sentence to "all of us that sit around in front of the  
monitors" it at least fits to me, since I'm sitting in front of a CRT.
