OT (somewhat): ease of "porting" programs to Linux

Sounds like a great idea, especially when a program is tied to a piece of
hardware.. Many is the time I have NOT acquired hardware that is Windows or
Mac specific. Luckily most hardware is Linux friendly.. even when the
software is not...
