Ouch!

MATE is buggy, even saving some basic settings doesn't work, unchecked
startup applications e.g. will be automagically checked again.

There's no user mailing list and there seem to be no experts in the
forums.

And than there are the conflicting packages, so I do understand that it
is neither in Ubuntu's nor in Arch's official repositories.

In theory a nice DE, in practice it is like the Windows DE.

It's not that resource hungry as Cinnamon is, but it's inappropriate to
replace Xfce.
