If everything does crash you should troubleshoot.

Try to keep threads, at least stay by one subject and trim irrelevant
quotes.

Please, post the output of

sudo synaptic

The CLI commands you need are

sudo -i
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get install name_of_package_1 name_of_package_n

Use the Ubuntu search engine to find packages and suggested/recommended
packages.
