[ubuntu-studio-users] EQ with JACK

Hi Ralf,

thank you for your reply. Using Ubuntu Studio 16.04 currently, but I am planning to do a full re-install & system upgrade to 17.10 around Christmas/New Year soon, so I'll probably reconfigure my setup then.

I don't use jackdbus, currently. I can get JACK and either Calf and/or JackRack started simultaneously while using the startup-script options in qjackctl and set all necessary connections in the patchbay, but my issue is basically that the plugin-windows need to stay open constantly and accidentally closing one will result in errors with the preset connections and I'll have to restart it. This has happened to me a few times already, as I'm used to close all unnecessary windows and keep my workspace clean.

Also, I don't like the fact very much of having full-blown plugin hosts open constantly when all I need is one single parametric EQ to flatten my room acoustics, which is around 0,1% of the functionality.

I thought that maybe there was an alternative to this that can be used with JACK. Maybe a dedicated EQ that can be set once and then moved to the systray or just runs quietly in the background? I haven't found anything yet, unfortunately. I read somewhere that there also is an option to enter EQ-frequencies into ALSA somehow, but I can't find anything on that for the life of me, either. I also don't know specifically what to search for.

Since EQ is rather essential when seriously trying mix and master audio, I thought I'd ask around how you guys manage that. Maybe I haven't thought of something yet, but my current solution is not very practical.
