Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: empathy
I figured out that if pidgin is installed it is no longer possible to
sign in to your jabber account. Maybe they have conflicting settings
somehow. Purging both pidgin and empathy configurations and then
reinstalling solved the problem for me.
