Closed Source drivers may be a little bit faster, I guess this article may
help you learn about some details :

for the closed source drivers check your hardware tool in gnome menu Systeme
> administration > pilotes et peripheriques.
if you can not find the closed source driver there you can download it from
the official ATI website :
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
I recommend you to try the open source driver first it will probably meet
your needs. otherwise if you encounter serious issues with the open source
drivers you can then switch to the closed source drivers.
