Dear all,
First, I want to apologise for any offences you may have percieved or any
inconveniences caused by my previous email. But be sure that never was or
is my intention to discourage the SFD Tunisia event organisation. Actually,
I think that I was misunderstood.
Just to let you know, I am aware of the openness of SFD and SFI, because I
was even a member of SFI and involved in the organization of SFD 2007 (with
SFI, not only the Tunisian event).
Most importantly, I am highly encouraging the initiative of having again
SFD organized in Tunisia. Recall, I was the first one to register for SFD
and organise it for the first year (2006) and we won an IBM server that is
still under the dust and none wanted to use it even for simple experiments.
In 2007 we were not able to participate because I was in the organizing
comity of SFD and in 2008 we also won also a honorary consideration. This
means that all previous events were successful and making use of their
ressources might same time and money.
When I said breaking the chain, I ment: why not joining the mailing list
SFD_Tunisia and launch one more time a call through that channel? Why not
contacting previous events directors for giving you acess to all available
ressources including the mailing list, website, reports, etc.? none have
contacted me or any other SFD directors of the past events!
The mailing list for example contains organizers, contributors and
partipants of all the past events which includes: DFSA, CLLFST,
ESPRITLibre, Fedora-Tunisia, FreeWays, Info+, JockerInfo, LibertySoft,
Securitnets, FreeSoft'com et bien sur Ubuntu-tn.
@Nizar, the problem of the Open Source Community in Tunisia is that "none
wants to work under the umbrella of others" in other words none wants to
join other efforts. A simple example, why looking for establishing new
associations knowing that there are others that exist but none is looking
to revive them!
For the www.softwarefreedomday.tn, it is a very nice idea, actually I was
paying for www.sfdtunisia.org for 3 years but then I stopped because none
wanted to take of it after me! but we still have
http://sfdtunisia.freehostia.com/ available online.
One more thing, I am not looking to be one of the organizers of SFD Tunisia
or even being of any kind of influence, because I have been since 2009
overwhelmed by organizing it here in Ireland but I am feeling some pinch
when seeing the previous efforts in Tunisia being vanished!
Regards,
Wassim
