Hi All.
I recently run into a problem, when i installed ubuntu 9.04 on the HP
Pavilion Dv7 Laptop, it starts heating up terribly i bet one can cook
eggs on it.
after and hour of activity we get 52C for the GPU, 48 C for CPU and 45
for both hard drives.
After Googling around it appears that the problem does exist, but no one
has a very clear solution on how to fix it, some throttle down the CPU
but that doesnt make sense why would one throttle it down if you require
performance.
The other explanation is that ubuntu sets a very high load cycle for the
drives hence increases wear and tear and generates lots of heat in the
process.
root at safari:/home/max# smartctl -a /dev/sda |grep -i Load_Cycle_Count
193 Load_Cycle_Count 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always
- 166
Normal value is around 15 -20 i am already running 8 times that.
Any views on this one???? I am thinking that perhaps its something to do
with the kernel i will post results after i have recompiled the
2.6.29.2 , but again not so sure.
if its of any help here is output of hardware info
