Check out Electronic Brains: Stories from the Dawn of the Computer Age
by Mike Hally
( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Electronic-Brains-Stories-Dawn-Computer/dp/1862078394 ) is a good read and a great introduction to "real" computers... ;o)
