[ubuntu-uk] deleting files-problem

[STONE COLD]

whenever i delete files from a folder they disappear but they do not appear in the waste basket. 
The "free space" then does not update ( to show ive just deleted the files). so im thinking they are probably still lurking about!

What do i do ?
