It only has one vga port so you either need to purchase a usb2vga splitter or invest in an hdmi output lead to get dual monitors. It doesn't have a cd/dvd drive, so you have to purchase an external one.

OK

It seems however my monitor has died, or is dying, as its not working
properly, goes off randomly, starts off grey and a bright grey
background (sorry can't really describe it properly) either way its not
right,.

so

I may start by getting a new monitor from somewhere, i can get tfts for
under £80, and don't see compatability issues with linux, once done,
will look in to either

a) getting a new system pre built
or
b) getting someone to help me build a new system that will work with
LInux from start, saving money
