I meant default Ubuntu. The design decision is to go forward with Unity, and
the OP's question was what would happen with Gnome 3 and specifically Gnome
Shell. If they aren't going to be developed in the context of mainstream
Ubuntu, then it is likely that someone will provide that choice of desktop
environment in the same way as there is Kubuntu and Xubuntu.
