I like that Andrew! I myself use dselect. What I typically do is setup 1 
server the way it should be, application wise. Then I use dselect and dpkg to 
install from a text file that contains a list of applications I have 
installed. I do the same with my desktop. So when it comes time to reinstall 
on my laptop, I will put all of the files installed into a text file, clean 
out the old ones I don't need anymore, and then wipe my system except for my 
~/ directory. After the new install is done, I use dpkg to install from file. 
Works great.
