Hey there guys,
It's been a long time since we've had an update on our team's present course
for any futures events so I thought I would send this out...
First, Jim has been suggesting that we have an U-BBQ or and UbuQue or
something... In any case, he wants to have a CoLoCo BBQ for the team to get
together before the end of the summer. Sounds like a great idea! There has
been a lot of discussion on the time, location, and other details which
prompted one of our members to setup a poll on our official forum hosted at
http://coloco.ubuntuforums.org. You can find the poll here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=512189
Go and vote! Let's get this thing setup and ready to roll!
Also, many of you probably heard me speculating about a Software Freedom Day
event. Well, that is still in the planning stages as the city of Denver has
still not gotten back to me about our permit for setting up a tent on 16th
street mall. When I have more details on exactly how this will be organized
and what people can volunteer to do I'll let you all know. For now, know
that it's on September 15th (which is a Saturday) and we're hoping to have
some sort of tent setup that will allow us to pass out TONS of Ubuntu CDs
and fliers. System76 has said that they may be able to sponsor a tent for
us, and cover some (or all) of the costs associated with this.
The release party for Gutsy is still on schedule for October 20th (the
saturday after release), however we have yet to find a location and organize
it further. I could really use a volunteer or two (or several) to find a
few locations in the Denver area (preferably close to downtown) that could
host about 50 people for either a whole afternoon or just an evening. If
you could contact these places yourselves and get a price (or better yet,
convince them to let us do it for free somehow) that would be amazing.
School is going to ramp up for me soon and I'm afraid that I won't be able
to do the work required all on my lonesome to have everything be ready for
our team on the 20th.
Lastly, I just wanted to tell you all how excited I am for this team's
progress! Our membership has continued to grow and we had at least 5 new
mailing subscriptions today alone! Keep up the good work guys!
Cheers,
David
