Did you upgrade from * to gutsy?  You may be hitting an issue where there are
conflicts over the device drivers.

There is one package you pretty much need to remove, having to do with an
unmaintained volume manager thingy.  I can't remember the bug id, or the name
of the package, but I'll do some looking.
