[CoLoCo] Can anyone help refute this?

This comment was on my blog about Linux and the iPhone

"I've long argued that the service based revenue stream is at odds
with making insanely great and easy to use software.

There's no self-interest in making free software that doesn't require
the service you need to make money.

You'd be shooting yourself in your wallet."

Somewhere I read a counter argument that basically said this is bull
and in fact the opposite is the case. I have no idea where I read
that. Does anyone have any sources?

Thanks,
Jim
