I just wanted to let everyone know that I have been working with a
second hardware vendor that is demonstrating a positive attitude toward
Linux. He has been working with me to put together our catalog of
equipment for my other company (Fighting Penguin Business Systems, to
launch mid December, or sooner) which is committed to the 100% Linux
based office. Windows is for pozers, lol.
The hardware vendor is:
DHE Computers
7006-C1 Alton Way
Centenial, CO 80112
(303) 290-6050
If you know where SoftPro book is located (and what kind of geek are you
if you don't, lol), they are two buildings down from there.
Unlike System76, Dan does not have a pre-built system with Linux
pre-installed. Instead, he builds, mostly desktops and servers, from
your specs. Laptops are customized from existing systems.
Dan has not specialized in Linux before, but he keeps my phone number a
quick touch away. And I have committed to him, any help he needs in
getting his internal Linux expertise up to speed. So, If you are
looking to buy a Linux based computer, by all means give System76 a
look, but give DHE a call also.
The way I figure it... If someone wants to sell Linux based solutions,
we should all try our best to support them. Those that don't want to,
will eventually have to support Linux to keep up if they want to or not.
After all, the two fastest selling computers right now is the gPC and
the Eee.
As an example, I have been working with Dan on two low cost Linux based
computers: One built on the Intel Little Valley motherboard (Unit under
$325, runs Gutsy fine, but will not run Compiz); and another build on
the LX800 AMD motherboard (cost and capabilities vary depending on video
and storage options).
Tell Dan that Kevin sent you.
