[CoLoCo] new t-shirt / help idea

I think that the shirt idea would be a great tool for advertising!
However, it has been my experience that people who are new to
something don't always like to ask questions to a live person; it can
be somewhat intimidating, especially when talking about computers.
The Ubuntu shirt is a great idea as an advertising mechanism, but
along with the Ubuntu logo, it would be great to have a simple and
easy-to-remember URL listed on the shirt. That way, when someone sees
the shirt and wants to learn more, they will hopefully go to the
website. Plus, you might not always have a flier on hand and it would
be great to point folks to further resources.
Function of the website:
- main page expresses in simple terms how the road to open source /
Linux / Ubuntu will benefit them
- provides information on how to get started
- links to valuable Ubuntu / general Linux resources, such as UbuntuScreencasts
- lists upcoming events, such as install-fests
- allows the user to express interest in having an install-fest take
place in their region (if there is enough interest, it might be worth
taking the time to set up an install-fest in more remote parts of the
state)
A great way to help more than just one person is at an install-fest.
Time is rather valuable, and if you can help more than one person at a
time, that's time better spent. For prospective Linux / Ubuntu
converts, I am not so sure if they have any idea that install-fests
take place or even what one is, so if we can get the word out... The
shirt idea might really work well. Something like this:
[Ubuntu Logo]
Free your computer! Ask me how.
www.colorado-ubuntu.net [or some other easy to remember URL]
I could be way off base here, but it seems like the shirt could a
simple tool that would point people to a resource of information -- a
simple website where they could find out about *why open source*, *why
Ubuntu* and *how to get started*. The http://coloco.ubuntu-rocks.org
website is a great website and seems to be useful for people who are
already dialed into Ubuntu, but for the bare-bones beginner, I'm not
sure if it effectively addresses the "why" and "how" questions (or at
least I did not see anything like that on the site -- I mean no
disrespect to the maintainers of this website).
There is already a lot of information out on the web, but if we are
looking to address Joe Colorado and plug CoLoCo, this might be a good
way to do it as well as consolidate information for the newcomers.
This is only my 2-cents worth.
