I've stopped using traditional "ball" mice a long time ago. Got tired
of having to take the thing apart and cleaning the lint off the ball and
rollers. Now I use a wireless optical mouse with a recharging base. It
works under Ubuntu just fine as either a USB mouse or PS/2 mouse with
the USB-to-PS/2 adapter. I also have a Logitech roller-ball mouse where
you roll a large ball with your thumb. It takes a little getting used
to but its great for when you don't have a lot of room to use a regular
mouse.
