I am all for a Linux in Education focus with a healthy dose of Ubuntu. I'm
with Ubuntu because of the great community, but I also experiment with
Mepis, Debian, Damn Small, Puppy and (from Loveland) Yellow Dog.
Right now I'm working overtime setting up two new classes next year at
Skyline: AP Computer Science and Intro to Programming. I guess I feel like
I'm doing a fair amount right here on my home turf (converting students to
FOSS) and don't have a lot of extra time. On the other hand, I love Ubuntu
and Linux and would love to help more than I do now.
In trying to convince my local district tech department that FOSS is a
possibility, I've kind of gotten to know quite a few edubloggers (crappy
term, but you know what I mean). I've been taking every opportunity I can
to spread the word about Ubuntu, Linux, and FOSS, and I've had some success
in teaching teachers. Any way we can make more teachers aware of what's out
there is progress. Sadly, teachers are by and large so unaware of FOSS that
I can target my own school (1400 students) and my district and that will
keep me working full time, just getting the word out....

P.S. Having great success getting Xubuntu to run on old iMacs. If anyone
needs help doing likewise, let me know.
