Just an FYI:
The primary reason for it being illegal to modchip an xbox is that it allows
you to circumvent their copy-protection features (thus allowing you to play
burned or pirated games).

And seeing as how microsoft collects money for each copy of a game sold for
their platform, they want people to keep buying games...  Oh, and it gives
them more market share. : )

(It's over-simplified, but that's the gist of it)
