It could be real.  At age 16-18, I was keeping up with the 
cutting edge of comp.graphics.algorithms, and had written a 
variety of my own programs/libraries for 3D math, image and 
colorspace manipulation, low-level graphics access, and physics 
simulations in C and assembly.

Or not.  Maybe they could show you how they created the programs?
