Nelson, those are indeed good thought-provoking comments.  I'm not
committed to the "CULT" name, and if many folks would avoid it or be
offended, then I'd steer away from it.  I'm interested in more
reactions from others on that aspect.

As for the other elements of the name, I think the word "Linux" in the
name helps to reach a much wider audience.  Most of the non-computer
folks I run into know a little something about Linux, but not about
Ubuntu.

I am mindful that Ubuntu has a long history that precedes the
invention of Linux, computers, and Colorado as we know it.

 Ubuntu is an African concept of "humanity towards others". It's "the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity". The same ideas are central to the way the Ubuntu community collaborates. Members of the Ubuntu community need to work together effectively, and this code of conduct lays down the "ground rules" for our cooperation. 

So "Colorado Ubuntu" could also be interpreted as a spiritual
community celebrating this beautiful concept.  A stretch?  Probably.
But I'd actually enjoy seeing such a community and wouldn't want to
preempt the name.

"Colorado Ubuntu" might also be interpreted as a product - a localized
version of Ubuntu, and the TIE folks might actually want to run with
that in a school setting.

I love coloco as a quasi-nickname, but not as a name, since it
functions more as a secret handshake.  If I put it on a t-shirt or
flier, folks will have no idea what it is about.
