I'm leaning in that direction, also.  We're going to have a discussion with IT and clarify a few things (like who really OWNs the laptop--the district does not).  After that I'll decide, but, yes, I'm leaning towards poping the CMOS battery out.  For one thing, I've never done it before and I like learning opportunities :-)

I've never messed with wubi. I'd just get IT to give you the password
as it's your computer now or remove the battery and erase the
password. Then just install Ubuntu normally. If you don't need windows
you can take pleasure in blowing it away too.
