Good rant. I think it's right on. Planning is definitely an issue but so is
energy. It's easy to get excited about something but sometimes harder to
actually find the energy (and time) to pull it off. A small group of us put
in a lot of energy last year to make TIE a success. Some of us are already
working on this again. Finding the time and energy to put together the kind
of release event we all want is going to be hard. I would be happy to help
with a northern Colorado event but I do not have the time/energy to try and
pull it all together. It also takes money to do this and we have none. I
know it was a contentious issue for a while, but if Canonical wants
advertising they are going to have put up some of the money. There is only
so much you can expect enthusiasts to do. I think locos need an advertising
budget (not necessarily in our own account).

That said, I would like to see something like Kevin suggests. It's a big
release and really a turning point for Ubuntu - especially if it's a really
good release. I still think having local hubs would be a great way to divide
and conquer the state.

My $.02.
