[CoLoCo] USB woes

I have a problem that's cropped up before, but the old fix doesn't
appear to be working any more.

It's mainly with my camera, but the underlying issue is with USB. I know
it's been changing, but I'm not real clear on what the changes are or
how it affects me. Any pointers on where to look for clarification on
that issue will be welcome as well.

My camera is never recognized when I plug it in (Canon 350D), but it's
not the camera that's the issue as I can't run usbview (it hangs), gtkam
(get the message about loading drivers but nothing after that), etc.

Any thoughts on this subject?
