The absolute #1 reason why I haven't converted this machine 100% over to
Ubuntu is the fact that Wine wasn't able to run Final Fantasy XI.
FFXI is an MMORPG for the PS2/PS3 (60 & 80GB only w/PS2 Hard Drive
Supported installed from PSN), Xbox 360 and Windows PC and is
essentially 5 full Final Fantasy games rolled up into one. Its a very
hard game, so if you like really-easy MMOs like WoW this game will beat
you, kick you when you're down and steal your wallet. It is NOT for
casual gamers.
Anyway, Wine can now finally run FFXI. About dang time!!! There are
still issues, its ranked as Silver borderline Gold on the Wine AppDB,
but it is now installable and playable. I'll will be eventually
checking this out once I allocate more space for Kubuntu. I have a lot
of files I cannot get rid of in my NTFS partition so I won't be able
give Kubuntu more space until I offload them somewhere.
If this works then the need to keep XP on this desktop goes away and
I'll be converting completely to Ubuntu.
