Hello, I'm new to this list but not to Ubuntu.
I started using Ubuntu when 7.04 was a new release and I've had an
on-again off-again relationship until 9.10. Before that I installing
Ubuntu via Wubi, but now its the only OS on my desktop. I've had
problems, mostly stemming from the system not accurately detecting my
monitor and thus limiting my available display resolutions, but I've
working around the issue by editing the xorg.conf file after each
fresh install.
Right now I'm using 10.04 on an old AMD Athlon XP 2000+ 1.2GHz Socket
A system with 1GB of PC2700 RAM, an 8x AGP Nvidia Geforce FX 5600
card, Sound Blaster Live PCI card, 16x DVD-RW drive and 160GB hard
drive. Performance is often sluggish, especially during heavy disk
access operations. I've been looking at Xubuntu since XFCE is
similar to Gnome interface-wise, and I'm not really a KDE fan. There
are some obstacles that might prevent me from using it though. I need
the Desktop Zoom and Color Inversion capabilities of Compiz Fusion due
to my poor vision. I also use Dropbox which requires Nautilus.
Is there a way I can use Xubuntu without loosing these features? I
also use Wally, I'd like to be able to keep using that as well. Any
suggestions?
I'm from the Hyattsville area, by the way.
