Nicholas Negroponte likes to get a bit ahead of himself, but as I recall,
there's a tablet prototype. There are also semi-organized but I don't think
official efforts to port a lot of the Sugar learning platform to something
more copacetic with Android.

The naysayers, or at least the devil's advocates (and I consider myself
among them) say "Wait a sec... As cool as tablets are, will a tablet survive
as well as the current beastie in the environments for which the XO was
theoretically designed? Will these tablets still be low-cost, low-power,
water-resistant, dirt-resistant, child-resistant, shock-resistant? Will they
be readable in direct sunlight?" While work is being done on all of those
fronts independently, will they all come together before they're obsolete
and Nicholas is off chasing the "Next Big Small Thing"?
