Running vanilla 10.04 LTS. No plans at all for any HW upgrade any time
soon. (I have built-in video, and have never gotten the Nvidia 7200 card
to work at all.)
With Unity looming for the 12.04 LTS, I looked at installing
kubuntu-desktop, but found this caveat:
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/kde
"Warning: having KDE and Gnome together means you'll have cluttered
application menus full of KDE applications and Gnome applications. There
may be other minor integration issues, but none should impact
functionality."
Scary for me.
I am a fan of CLEAN desktops and file menus. (Unity is visually
un-appealing to me.)

If I install openbox or fluxbox via synaptic (with recommends and
dependencies), I am aware I am to choose the Session at login. I do get
that.
1. But any idea what happens when Gnome is GONE at the 12.04 LTS and I
still use Evolution? (I am fairly certain that my Firefox, ClamTK,
GRAMPS, Firestarter firewall, and Xiphos apps should be OK. They're all
I have added.)
2. Or when 12.04 removes the Gnome stuff (if I am understanding the
news) will the WM installed now still even run?
I sincerely apologize if these are ambiguous or ridiculous. I just don't
want to leave Ubuntu, even for Linux Mint Debian or Debian, the
rolling-release type distros.
Thank you, and have a wonderful weekend.
Marti
