I cannot recall when, but I've been a member of The World and The WELL
for a VERY long time.  Probably damned close to 20.  The WELL I still
make reasonable use of.  But The World I used almost exclusively for
Usenet newsgroups.

That's a claim I can't make, though his name rings a bell...  When I
called today to tell them it's time to pull the plug, the woman I
spoke with mentioned that their Usenet newsgroup feed was finally
kaput as of very, very recently. (I think she said "being turned off
this weekend".) I had no idea.  Just a case of coincidental timing.
