[DC LoCo] 12.04 upgrade question

I am running a standard GNOME 10.04.4 LTS but with the LXDE packages
installed; 99% of the time I use the LXDE enviro.
I have tried a LiveCD of 12.04 unity on this 5 year old PC. I get double
mouse pointers and flickering screen. Now, the 12.04.1 should be out
soon, and I have done in-place upgrades before (8.04, 8.10, 9.04, 9.10
and the last to 10.4). I learned from this group (thanks, Ms. Morgan)
that the point-release time is when the LTS should indicate it's ready.
Knowing that unity gives me the above conditions, BUT knowing I already
have LXDE installed (and it's in the 12.04 repos), should I be
capitulating and crying, or should I forge ahead when the update-manager
GUI indicates an UPGRADE is available?
I do plan to make a DVD of my home dir files.
Thank you.
Marti
