Re: What is a LoCo Team, and how do I join?

Last year my new motherboard was fried by a thunderstorm, so I had to buy another motherboard. I then rescued (used Windows to get me new drivers) my hard drive that I had been able to keep updating since Win 95 days.

I am still using this system, but the new hard drive that went with my damaged motherboard could not be used because Microsoft identified my OEM Windows as not genuine. It locked it up so that the only way to save the drive was to put it into a usb enclosure, and use Partition Magic to erase the drive into an unallocated state.

Forums are good, but it would be nice if there were some local people that we could call on the phone or see in person to answer questions immediately. I am 74 and I downloaded and burned the ubunto 6.1 for desktops, just a few days ago.

I have another Windows system that had something wrong with it, and after trying a long time to make it work, I took out the hard drive and put in the unallocated drive, and then inserted the ubunto CD, which installed ubunto Linux.

Now I am trying to learn how to install files and programs to my new OS. Yes I use the Add Remove Programs. No more paying for a new OS every time you change mother baords!

My desktop is getting filled up with resource pages that I copied that explain the command line,
etc. So much to learn! My first post to a forum (username = bookinstall,at Community Cafe) was to try to find help to install my CD e-Book onto Linux.

I live in Beech Grove (suburb of Indianapolis). If you are into Linux and live nearby let me know, so I can bother you to death with questions!

Thanks!
