It's apparently grub2 that's changed and things like nofb and vga=normal
are deprecated.

talks about how to set the resolution with grub2.
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=41881 mentions setting
GRUB_TERMINAL=console in /etc/default/grub to disable the framebuffer
entirely.
I'm not running Lucid at the moment but plan on upgrading soon.
