At the very minimum, I'd love to see a panel at FOSS Camp on the
subject.

Wonderful! We'd love for you to share your experiences. How long has
this been in place? What software do you present to the kids? Do you
lock down the machines and if so, how? How do you encourage them to
learn?

Well, FOSS Camp - like BarCamp - is a "bring your presentation and show
off your stuff" style event. If you can find other educators who are
doing similar things, you may be able to make an even bigger deal out of
it.

In fact, that may be something to look into starting as I doubt it
exists already - a group of educators in MA who are looking to use
something other than Windows on their school computers, but who either:

1) don't have the technical expertise, but understand the benefits,

2) understand what it could be, but don't have enough education-specific
experience to convince the administraton to take the risk,

3) have the expertise, but are looking for peers to share ideas on common
tasks, such as Windows integration and the like.

No doubt if such a group started to really hit it off, that would be
noticed.
