They require that an MIT alumnus or MIT staff member be an active
member of the user group. The person doesn't have to do any ongoing
work, they just have to register as the user group's sponsor and be an
active member of the group.

It's been asked several times on this list whether any members of the
group are MIT alumni. One person identified herself as an MIT staff
member who is leaving MIT in the near future. I haven't seen anyone
respond to identify themselves as having graduated at MIT.

Perhaps it would make sense to actively recruit someone who is an
MIT alumnus, and convince them to join the group and sponsor it.
