[ubuntu-us-ma] Installing Karmic Koala

Bill,
I'm less risk averse than the other responders so I'll briefly detail
my experiences. I upgraded two different computers last week from
Jaunty to Karmic. Both completed the upgrade process fine and are
working perfectly now. During the second installation I did encounter
this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/442651
which was far scarier in bark than bite.
The obvious risk is that Karmic isn't finished yet. However, the
benefits of upgrading earlier are that you (1) get to play with new
stuff sooner, (2) get to learn if stuff does break, and (3) get to
avoid the mass rush on the actual release date.
You have to decide for yourself how much risk to accept. On my work
laptop I don't intend to upgrade to Karmic until a few weeks *after*
the official release. If you just want to play with Karmic the LiveCD
is a good option.
Thanks,
brian
