Since you "invite" suggestions, I'll contribute. I think the Linux
community should try to get the federal, state, and local governments
to consider Linux as a cost saving alternative to Microsoft. Some
months ago I suggested this to this group: that we get a Linux laptop
and take it to some of these politicians - Duval Partick comes to mind
- and let them use it for a week or so and see if it could meet the
needs of the State of Massachusetts. If we could get the state to
switch to Ubuntu, them maybe we could get the federal government to
follow. As I recall, the response from this group was decidedly
uninterested. One problem mentioned was that it would take a
substantial company to organize a switchover.

However, I still think this suggestion has merit. The governments are
interested in saving money, which free software would do over time.
