[ubuntu-us-ma] gksudo gedit breaks 'save-as' dialogue

I just ran gedit as root user, using gksudo.  Having done this, I can no 
longer use the 'save-as' file chooser.  When I hit the 'save' button, the 
program crashes, and no file is saved.  Some file's permissions 
and/ownership has changed, any idea where I should look?
